When our beloved instructor, Lies, volunteered to be the first to contribute to this project, she had a hard time picking one value. After all, they all feel right. But if one stands out, it’s probably: EXERCISE SHOULD BE FUN. After all the human body was made to be used. When we exercise we feel good. But if we’re going to do it regularly, it has to be fun. Exercise should be an experience. When we coach and instruct it is an expression of ourselves.
But don’t take our word for it, as Lies put it herself: “Of course we exercise to stay fit and healthy. But while you’re at it, you may just as well have fun! A Friskis session is bound to make you smile and feel good about yourself. Be it the music, the enthusiasm of the people around you, or the adrenalin of working out – most likely, it’ll be all of these reasons. It’s what makes Friskis unique and what makes it so much easier to keep going.”
She not the only one to share this feeling. A Swedish instructor, Maja Sönnerbo, described this value in the following way: “The joy of movement is a good way of putting it. It captures all the positive feelings I get when I use my body for its intended purpose: movement. Though for me that still sounds too weak. A really good exercise session makes me simply enjoy being alive.”
As the scores of participants that regularly come to our instructor know that Lies has taken to heart her favorite Friskis value and make it her personal mission to ensure that everyone is having fun around her…. Or else!
But let’s take a moment to get to know better our fun loving instructor. Having joined Friskis 10 years ago, Lies decided to become a Volunteer in early 2013, (both as a host and member of the Comms team) before taking the plunge and becoming a full-fledged instructor in August 2017. In her personal life, she has a very exotic background since she actually grew up in Belgium and has publicly stated that, as a rule, she always feels better after a Friskis session than before.
Oh and her motto is “You’ll regret not trying more than you’ll regret trying and not succeeding.” So come try out the fun for yourselves.
